Anderson Cooper's Mea Culpa Editing Style
In this short 36 second video, Anderson Cooper appears to be using his medium well for coming right out with a full disclosure on the possibility of a breakdown in integrity over his debates.
While delivering his Mea Culpa, take note of his choice in clubs, an approach wedge: the slow zoom.
The slow zoom brings out the seriousness and depth of the speaker’s intentions while building...
TechCrunch: Sarah Meyers’ Live Online TV Show
PopSnap
Article By Michael Arrington reprinted below:
I first met Sarah Meyers when she crashed our 2006 party at August Capital. She was booted, but got enough video footage to make this video. This year she was back at the party, but as an invitee - see one of her videos here.
Meyers now lives in New York, and has been working on a new live daily tech show. It hasn’t officially...
Warner Music: We’re totally screwed
“Warner’s revenue was essentially flat, while earnings fell by almost 60 per cent to just $5-million — and that’s on total sales of almost $900-million, which works out to a profit margin of about .5 per cent. In other words, virtually non-existent.” - Link.

Universal Music CEO Doug Morris Speaks, Recording...
When Morris is asked why the music business didn’t work harder, in the early days of file-sharing, to build its own (legal) online presence, there’s this exchange [via Wired]
“There’s no one in the record industry that’s a technologist,” Morris explains. “That’s a misconception writers make all the time, that the record industry missed this. They...
Brightcove Ending Video Uploads
As others apparently have noticed today, Brightcove has changed their business plan…again. Here is the letter I just got.
Dear Brightcove.TV member,
Beginning December 18, 2007, we plan to end support of direct consumer uploads to Brightcove.TV. As a result, you will not be able to upload new videos to Brightcove.TV after December 17, 2007. But videos you have already uploaded to...

Cave People
“An entire village of Maew (Miao) people in China is living in a cave which is about 700 feet deep. They have houses, a school where children study during day time. Their building don’t have roofs because they don’t need them. It’s amazing how people are living there.” - Cave People (via metafilter).

“Specifically, analyst Gene Munster and his team found that 27 percent of people walking within 25-feet of an Apple store entrance wound up entering the store.” - Link.

Molson pulls plug on Facebook photo contest
“Molson is among those wading into the uncharted territory.
But it stepped over the line of acceptability with its Facebook campaign, said Joe MacDonald, dean of students at St. Francis Xavier University and one of the administrators who complained to Molson. “It’s cheap marketing,” he said. “I’m concerned about Molson’s lack of contrition.”
Mr. Devins said Molson...

Errors in Science Fiction Movies
“Explosions in Space: Unfortunately virtually every science fiction movie makes this error - in fact, in the vacuum of outer space, there can be no flames (as flames need oxygen) and, of course, no boom. An exception to this is the film 2001, in which Bowman re-enters the Discovery by blowing out an airlock.” -Link.

“Ars Technica has had a chance to look at Soundscan’s sales figures for some of the tracks included in Guitar Hero 3 before and after the game’s release, and it’s crystal clear that having your music included in a Guitar Hero game means increased sales for labels and bands. ” Story.

Where are all of the Quarter-Life Friends?
I just had a look at the MySpace page for the lead character on Quarterlife expecting her/it to have a gazillion friends but so far it appears they have only 381. Not bad by a normal human standard, but shouldn’t there be more for all the attention this show is getting? She hasn’t logged in in two days so maybe there are tons that haven’t been officially added yet.
90% of Saturday Night Live Staff Fired
Several staff members have confirmed. This is incredible news. In the long run, it could ultimately be beneficial for both sides of the table. The traditional studios can clean up their overflow and the talent may finally wake up and see the internet. Link |
Rocketboom Sponsored by Adobe
Today Rocketboom begins another very cool advertising sponsorship via our ad partner Blip.tv. Overlay banner ads will appear on all Rocketboom flash files for the highest CPM earning in our history.
The month-long campaign for Adobe, a company I’m very proud to have sponsor us, is ideal because the advertising will only exist on our flash distribution. Therefore, our audience can still...
NTV Live Panel: New Studios and Talent Agencies «... →
I wish I could of taken-up the panel invite for the NewTeeVee conference this week but alas, Im in Berlin for the Best of the Blogs.
Participants at the conference were asked to vote on which network was the most likely to succeed. Since the audience was full of people who are really plugged into this topic matter, I find the results compelling:
While not surprised to see Next New Networks...
Comcast Sued Over BitTorrent Blocking →
A California man filed suit in state court Tuesday against internet service provider Comcast, arguing that the company’s secret use of technology to limit peer-to-peer applications such as BitTorrent violates federal computer fraud laws, their user contracts and anti-fraudulent advertising statutes.
Head of Warner Music: we were wrong to go to war... →
“We used to fool ourselves,’ he said. “We used to think our content was perfect just exactly as it was. We expected our business would remain blissfully unaffected even as the world of interactivity, constant connection and file sharing was exploding. And of course we were wrong. How were we wrong? By standing still or moving at a glacial pace, we inadvertently went to war with...

“A Dutch teenager has been arrested for allegedly stealing virtual furniture from “rooms” in Habbo Hotel, a 3D social networking website. — The 17-year-old is accused of stealing 4,000 euros (£2,840) worth of virtual furniture, bought with real money.”

“A newly study commissioned by Industry Canada, which includes some of the most extensive surveying to date of the Canadian population on music purchasing habits, finds what many have long suspected (though CRIA has denied) - there is a positive correlation between peer-to-peer downloading and CD purchasing. ”
Why Mahalo is Fundamentally Flawed
Jason Calacanis has a new videoblog called Mahalo Daily. The show is starring Veronica Belmont. [I’m a big fan of Veronica (Hi Veronica!)] Unfortunately, I think Veronica will not be able to get much support for the show by working for Mahalo. Setting aside the possibility that Calacanis may turn off viewers to the videoblog due to his aggressive marketing tactics, the kinds of problems that...

Wi-MAX: Missing the Point
There is a lot of discussion these days about the application of Wi-MAX in the US and today in particular, as a major breakdown occurred between Clearwater and Spint.
There is not much discussion on the *international* use of Wi-MAX.
I happen to follow it because like video, I believe it’s one of the most progressive technologies for bringing people around the world together. In...

Radiohead: comScore totally inaccurate →
The fact that Comscore surveyed only a couple of hundred people to determine the metrics doesn’t make sense to me. I understand how these polls can be somewhat accurate in politics - they involve historical data - but I just can’t wrap my brain around extrapolating this study to such a large scale.
Why can’t Radiohead just say what it is? If they want to be helpful to their...

Eisner's advice to striking writers: Blame Steve... →
OMG! What a hippo. I think Michael Eisner is just bitter that his TV show got less of an audience size on air (95,000) than Rocketboom gets online. He must have psychological damage to be saying that there is no money for writers online.

Live from New York, it's the Founders Club →
Last night I was at the Founders Club which has repeatedly been the best social in NYC (see link above). And almost everyone was wearing a jacket.
I knew I was at NBC but I had no idea I was standing in the middle of the Saturday Night Live set until Ellie confirmed about 20 min later.
I spoke to a lot of people and chatted a bit longer with Max of Mogulus who is excited to launch next week (I...
